What does a C-7 Low Voltage Systems Contractor license cover?
A C-7 contractor installs, services, and maintains communication and low-voltage systems that are energy limited and do not exceed 91 volts, including telephone, sound, cable TV, CCTV, satellite dish antennas, instrumentation and temperature controls, and low-voltage landscape lighting. Low-voltage fire alarm systems are specifically excluded and, per CSLB guidance, require a C-10 Electrical license.
Is this built specifically for the C-7 low voltage trade exam?
Yes. The question bank follows the current CSLB C-7 topic outline, including planning, cabling, systems installation, testing, troubleshooting, and safety.
Do I need the Law & Business exam too?
Yes. CSLB describes the exam process in two parts and requires all qualifying individuals to pass the Law & Business exam in addition to the C-7 trade exam, so many applicants bundle both.
Can I take the C-7 exam online, and how many questions or what passing score should I expect?
No, the official CSLB exam is taken in person at a PSI test center, and CSLB allows 3.5 hours for each examination. CSLB does not publish a public question count or a numeric passing score for the C-7 exam; you are told the passing percentage at the test site.
