About this free practice test

Low voltage work extends beyond data networks. This sample moves between cabling specifications, system connections, electrical measurements and jobsite safety, so experience with one system may not answer every question. Questions are grouped by CSLB topic areas to help you separate installation knowledge from testing and troubleshooting. Your result shows where to focus next; it does not predict whether you will pass. Full prep adds the complete question bank, saved history and readiness tracking.

Free C-7 Low Voltage Systems Contractor practice test — FAQ

Where can I get the free C-7 study guide PDF?

Download the free Low Voltage Systems (C-7) study guide from CSLB using the study-guide link on this page. It contains the exam outline, a reference list and three sample questions. Here, you can work through 20 original practice questions online and review explanations as you go.

Which books and standards does CSLB list for the C-7 exam?

The guide lists the BICSI Telecommunications Distribution Methods Manual (TDMM, 14th edition), TIA wiring standards, the ANSI-J-STD-710 drawing-symbols standard for audio, video and control systems, the 2022 California Building, Electrical and Fire Codes, Ugly's Electrical References, and the Cal/OSHA safety orders. The exam is closed-book, so these books are for studying, not for test day.

How hard is the C-7 low voltage exam?

The outline spans planning, installation, testing, troubleshooting and safety, so experience with one system covers only part of it. Job Planning and Design is the largest area of the outline. The exam is closed-book, with four choices and one best answer per question. You have 3-1/2 hours, a calculator is provided for computation questions, and there is no penalty for guessing.

Can I take the C-7 exam in Spanish?

No. C-7 is not on CSLB's current list of exams offered in Spanish, although the Law & Business exam is. If no translated exam is available, CSLB may allow a translator you choose, approved in advance. On Test2Pro you can study in your language: the site works in English, Spanish, Chinese, and Russian, and practice questions can be shown in 8 languages.

What math is on the C-7 exam?

CSLB says some questions require mathematical computation and provides a calculator. This sample includes finding circuit power from voltage and resistance, adding the wattage of connected devices, and working out rack units. The CSLB guide also includes a cable-quantity example. These are useful calculation types to review, not a complete list of possible exam problems.

Does the C-7 practice test cover Cat 5e, PoE+ and fiber?

Yes. This free test includes Cat 5e channel length, power delivered to a PoE+ device, pulling tension for copper cable and fiber bend radius without pulling tension. These questions distinguish a cable specification from an installation condition. Each answer includes an explanation to help you review that distinction.

How to use your sample score

Separate missed cable and power specifications from mistakes in choosing or using a test instrument. Review those explanations first, then use saved history in full prep to track the topics you revisit.
