What this free test covers

Work through 20 original practice questions on welding symbols, electrode handling, aluminum preparation and joining processes. Review questions on tungsten sizing, overlap, spot welding, oxy-fuel cutting and welding fumes. Your result groups the sample by published CSLB topic area to show where preparation, process knowledge or safety needs more attention.

About this free practice test

This is written practice for the welding contractor exam. It asks you to interpret symbols, consider material preparation and choose answers about joining, cutting and safety; it does not assess hands-on welding skill. Questions are grouped by CSLB topic areas so you can find gaps beyond your usual process or shop work. The result shows where to focus, not whether you will pass. Full prep adds the complete question bank, saved history and readiness tracking.

Free C-60 Welding Contractor practice test — FAQ

Where can I find the free C-60 welding study guide?

CSLB's Welding (C-60) study guide is available as a free PDF through the study-guide link on this page. It contains the exam outline, reference materials and three sample questions. This online test adds 20 original practice questions with explanations, organized around the published topic areas.

Which AWS references does CSLB list for C-60?

The guide lists three AWS standards: D1.1 (Structural Welding Code – Steel), A2.4 (standard symbols for welding, brazing and nondestructive examination) and Z49.1 (safety in welding, cutting and allied processes). It also lists the AWS shop guide to welding safety and health, the Modern Welding textbook and the Cal/OSHA safety orders. The exam is closed-book, so use these references for study.

How hard is the C-60 welding exam?

Familiarity with one welding process does not cover the whole outline: preparation, cutting, planning and safety also appear. Welding, Brazing, and Soldering is the largest area of the outline. You have 3-1/2 hours for the closed-book exam. Each question has four choices and one best answer, and there is no penalty for guessing. Use the sample to identify topics beyond your everyday welding work.

Can I take the C-60 exam in Spanish?

No. CSLB's current Spanish-language exam list does not include C-60; Law & Business is on it. If no translated exam is available, CSLB may allow a translator you choose, approved in advance. You can still study in your language: the Test2Pro site works in English, Spanish, Chinese, and Russian, and practice questions can be shown in 8 languages.

Does the C-60 practice test include welding symbols?

Yes. The sample asks about a number placed to the right of a weld symbol and a fillet-weld symbol below the reference line. These questions give you practice reading symbol position and dimensions. Each answer includes an explanation; the sample is not a complete review of every welding symbol.

Does the C-60 test cover welding processes and cutting?

Yes. Questions cover tungsten sizing in gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), conditions that cause overlap, heat generation in spot welding and welding power sources. Oxy-fuel cutting questions address preheating and torch position. The sample also includes electrode handling and aluminum cleaning, connecting process knowledge with preparation.

How to use your sample score

Separate symbol-reading errors from questions about preparation, welding processes, cutting and safety. Review the unfamiliar process or condition behind each missed answer before trying another session.
